October 27, 2018 — In our annual return to the ever-so-great Texas Book Festival (and Lit Crawl Austin), Literary Death Match put on a magical night of literature, laughs and libations that saw Tarfia Faizullah outduel Aja Gabel in a tense game of Arithme-Lit to win Faizullah the LDM Austin, Ep. 13 crown, and literary immortality to go with it. 

What is Literary Death Match? Part literary event, part comedy show, part game show, Literary Death Match brings together four of today’s finest writers to compete in an edge-of-your-seat read-off critiqued by three celebrity judges, and concluded by a slapstick showdown to decide the ultimate champion.

Literary Merit: Alexander Chee, author of the novels Edinburgh, The Queen of the Night, and the essay collection How To Write An Autobiographical Novel

Performance: Kathy Blackwell, Executive Editor at Texas Monthly

Intangibles: Cristin O'Keefe Aptowicz, New York Times bestselling nonfiction writer and poet, and author of Dear Future Boyfriend and Hot Teen Slut
