October 16, 2019 — O, Canada, we can't quit you! In our annual visit north of the border, Literary Death Match returned to Calgary for another WordFest epic that saw Ashley Spires narrowly defeat Amy Jones in a airtight game of LDM Cabinet of Non-Wonders to win Spires the LDM Calgary, Ep. 7 crown, and literary immortality to go with it. 

What is Literary Death Match? Part literary event, part comedy show, part game show, Literary Death Match brings together four of today’s finest writers to compete in an edge-of-your-seat read-off critiqued by three celebrity judges, and concluded by a slapstick showdown to decide the ultimate champion.

Judges: 

Literary Merit: Anakana Schofield, multi-award-winning author of BINA, Martin John, and Malarky

Performance: Joshua Whitehead, author of full-metal indigiqueer and Jonny Appleseed, and winner of the Governor General’s History Award for the Indigenous Arts and Stories Challenge in 2016

Intangibles: Alice Kuipers, best-selling author of eight books who has won or been shortlisted for these prizes: the Carnegie Medal, the White Pine Award, the Grand Prix de Viarmes, and the Saskatchewan First Book Award
